To make T-Shirt yarn, you need Some shirts without seams on the sides, scissors, and free time.
It's really that easy.
I got these shirts at a garage sale, for next to nothing.
First, you lay out the shirts and cut straight across just under the armpits and straight across on the bottom, cutting off the lower seam. The part in the middle shouldn't have any decorations or seams on it, if it does, making the shirt into yarn will be too hard.
I couldn't fit the whole shirt in the shot, but up top is the sleeves. Sorry.
You can do whatever you want with the top halve, I just threw some of them out. I can't figure out something to do with them.
Next, fold the middle section, which is basically a knit tube, nearly in half side to side, so that there is a bit of space where it isn't double layered.
After all of your strips are cut, unfold the part of the shirt that was not doubled.
And cut diagonally from strip to strip. I couldn't think of a good way to explain this part, so I made a kind of really bad little diagram. The black lines are what you have already cut and the red lines are what you are cutting when you cut diagonally. When you do this, it becomes one long strip.
After that, pull the yarn tight. It will go from looking like a strip of cloth to looking like more of a curled tube.
This is that last step in making your yarn. Just pull the whole thing until it looks like a big pile of noodles and roll it into a ball.
You can make a bunch of them and make some cool things. With mine, I made a school bag.
But I don't have a picture of it yet. I will soon!
Until next time, happy crafting!
Lily
